Democracy, Good Governance, and the Phenomenon of Corruption in Nigeria

Abstract
Democracy is a concept that has been recognized as an acceptable mode of governance. Embedded in this idea however are different approaches with respect to the attainment of this objective. The faults’ inherent in some of these approaches led to the recognition of ‘good governance’ as a more acceptable concept in the description of the governance concept. Corruption is a negation of the ideals of democracy and good governance. This paper seeks to show how corruption has destroyed the fabric of ‘democracy’ and ‘good governance’ and the pursuit of the fundamental values of freedom, happiness, peace and order in the Nigerian society.
